There’s no shortage of things to do in Pittsburgh this month. From music to food to family fun, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorites!
1. The Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival
September 9th
First up is one of the most delicious things to do in Pittsburgh: visit the Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival! Unofficially the city’s favorite food, you’re sure to get your fill of these delicious dumplings. For one day only, find over 100 pierogi and pierogi-inspired dishes from five different states. Plus more than 20 pierogi vendors.
2. Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival
September 16 – 18
Now in its 12th year, the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival gathers more than one hundred musicians at Highmark Stadium over the course of three days. Enjoy performances from all kinds of artists — from award-winning legends to new voices in jazz, funk, and fusion. This year’s line-up includes multi-Grammy winner Ron Carter, jazz fusion pioneer Stanley Clarke, powerhouse vocalist, Ledisi, soul funk icons Average White Band, and many more.
3. Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival
Every weekend in September
Hear ye, hear ye! The Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival is back offering fun, food, and entertainment for the whole family. Good King Henry invites you to experience a 16th Century Renaissance Amusement Park, complete with artisans, merrymakers, knights, animals, and more. (And of course, turkey legs!) This year’s upcoming themed weekends include Wine Revelry, Pirate Invasion, and Love & Romance.
4. Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race
September 25
Now in its 45th year, the annual Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race started in 1977 in an effort to establish a “community fun run.” Since then, nearly a half million people have participated in the Great Race, making the event the largest 10K race in Pennsylvania. This year, you can also find a 5K run/walk, a running clinic, the Junior Great Race, Great Race Expo, and more.
